Lightridge/John Champe Hockey Preseason Preview: Adjustments and Establishing Team Chemistry
After winning the Virginia Provisional High Schools State Championship for two consecutive years, Lightridge/John Champe hockey wants to keep the streak going. Despite losing 5-10 players to graduation, the number of players in the upcoming 2024-2025 season is 11 from Lightridge and 8 from John Champe, a new total of 19 players.
In January 2021, Lightridge and John Champe hockey, in need of players, combined and formed a joint team where players from both schools play together. Scott Lynn is the coach of the team, which practices, and plays, at Ashburn Ice House, Haymarket Iceplex, and other nearby ice rinks.
With some key players graduating, the team now is a mix of returning players and new, inexperienced players.
“I’m confident in the returning players because we’ve been playing together our whole lives, ” said Aiden Hudson, a junior at Lightridge and player on the team. “I have concerns about the new players. It depends on how well the new players can work together with us to succeed.”
Starting October 25th fans will be watching closely to see how the Lightridge/Champe hockey team adapts and performs in what could be a great season.
