College application season is in full swing, and many students find themselves with a variety of options related to not just where to apply, but when. Most colleges have some form of a choice between early admissions or standard admission, with some schools also accepting applications on a rolling basis. There are pros and cons to each, and the process is a stressful one.
Lightridgenews.com conducted an anonymous poll to see exactly how many people choose each option, and the results were overwhelmingly one-sided.
Out of 120 polled students, 71.6% applied early. The reasoning for early application generally was attributed to three reasons: it’s less stressful, it gets it out of the way, and it gives me a higher chance of getting in.
While the majority of students applied early, 19.2% of polled students wanted to go through the normal admissions process. These students communicated that they want more time to fully organize their applications.
Finally, 9.2% of students applied to colleges with rolling admissions. This type of application is only offered by certain colleges, which is likely why it consists of the smallest portion of polled students. Nonetheless, the few students that applied to colleges offering rolling admissions said that the applications are easier to manage due to the flexible timeline.
