Every day there is a group of students that file into the school just after the morning bell rings to start class. This group lines up in front of the attendance check in Some days, however, this group is significantly larger than it is on others. Many students, including senior Jimmy Burpoe, said that the day they are tardy the most is Monday.
“It’s hard to get up on time after sleeping in during the weekend,” Burpoe said.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, an anonymous student said that they had the most trouble with punctuality on Friday.
“It’s hard to wake up after a full week of school.”
According to a poll of 16 students, 62.5% of students said that the day they are tardy the most is Monday, whereas 37.5% said that they miss school on Fridays the most. This data accurately sums up the two core reasons students are late in general: either they are too tired after the weekend, or they are too tired after a full week of school.
Attendance Administrative Assistant Umber Ahmad had more conclusive evidence for what day has the most tardies.
“The day that had the most tardies was Friday, January 31st with 254 students showing up between 9:30 and 9:54,” Ahmad said.
The rain on that Friday may have been a factor, but the aforementioned reasoning for students being late on Fridays surely also played a role in the highest number of late students all year.
Whatever the reason may be, it is clear that the majority of students at Lightridge have a clear case of the “Friday Fever,” a trend that is likely to only get exacerbated in the second semester.
