The boys soccer team has started their 2025 campaign with an unprecedented undefeated streak of six wins and one tie. Two of the games, against Rockridge and John Champe, were especially notable, as they were mercy rule wins. To get a mercy rule, a team must be up by eight points, at which point the game is stopped. In both of those games, Lightridge won 8-0. The next two games were also shutouts, with a 4-0 win against Freedom, and a 2-0 win against Tuscarora. The boys then took a 4-1 win against Loudoun Valley, a 1-1 tie against Loudoun County and a 2-1 win against Stone Bridge.
“It feels good to see the work that we put in over the last couple years really show up in a positive way this year,” said Varsity Head Coach David Cesnik. “We knew going into the season that this could be the most talented roster that we’ve ever had, it feels good to see that pay off in the game on the scoreboard.”
“For us it’s just maintaining the level we’ve been playing at,” said senior midfield forward Connor Kwan, the midfield forward.
“The defense has done really well to prevent the other team from taking dangerous shots,” said senior goalkeeper Jimmy Brown. “There’s some pressure when you’re on this good run and other teams are looking to try to end that.”
Lightridge looks to continue the season strongly with the remaining nine games left in the season, with districts following after.
