On March 8, the Student Council Association hosted its first Family Feud game show.
Teams of students were pitted against each other in an attempt to pick the most popular answers to a variety of questions. The questions came from online polls before the show where all students were able to vote. The show included three questions per round and a total of three rounds between the different grades. The questions also connected student life at Lightridge to make it more entertaining for the audience. For example, the students were polled on their favorite teacher, favorite school food, and the worst place to be stuck for 24 hours.
“I liked the funniest teacher and best lunch food questions,” said Kaitlyn Fella, a senior participant.
“My favorite question was the one with the school lunch food,” said senior Jimmy Brown, a member of the audience.
The process of creating Family Feud was lengthy, and had many tweaks along the way- one of them being the abnormal number of snow days. Due to the snow days, Family Feud ended up getting postponed two weeks, which caused conflicts among the SCA along with student participation. Lack of participation is what gave rise to Family Feud in the first place. In past years, Lightridge has held a male pageant show called Next Top Bolt. This year, Next Top Bolt was postponed due to an extreme decrease in senior participation, and Family Feud took its place.
“It was very interesting, but it could’ve been more organized,” said Brown. “I do think Next Top Bolt is better because it’s more entertaining with the students doing things up there.”
“It could’ve been set up better and I feel like we should’ve changed the end to rapid questions where you turn your back,” said Fella.
Family Feud suffered heavily from the lack of organization, mainly due to the snow days and planning during the winter spirit week. The show was constrained to only one hour due to the schedule of the school day, which also limited the potential. It’s unclear if Lightridge will host another game show similar to Family Feud, but Next Top Bolt will be held on April 24.
