On October 8, while the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors all took the PSAT, the senior class participated in a career fair where professionals came in to talk about their experiences in the workplace.
Career Center Specialist Kara Pascale said “The Career Expo allows Seniors practice their communication skills,” said Career Center Specialist Kara Pascale. “ English teachers worked with students on drafting and revising elevator pitches and the Expo provides an opportunity for our students to try them out.”
Seniors went through two main rotations. The first featured a panel of professionals who answered questions led by leaders from the Positive Experiences in Educational Relationships (PEER) organization, who asked about recruiting, handling rejection, marketing yourself, and more. The panelists included Cassandra Taylor, Katie Brown, Douglas Meyer, Ritu Desai, and David Ramadan.
“I was really happy to be asked to speak,” said Taylor, who is the Regional Vice-President of Sales for Invited Clubs, a company that owns and operates over 150 golf courses. “The moderators had fantastic questions and did a great job, and getting to interact with the seniors was wonderful. I hope everyone took away something useful.”
The second rotation was in the aux gym, where booths were set up showcasing multiple career pathways. Some of the booths included the FBI, Excel Rehabilitation Physical Therapy, the police department, Eclipse Hair Salon, Splunk Technology,a financial services company and the Marines. Students were free to walk around, interact with the professionals, and were encouraged to ask questions about the different opportunities offered within each job.
This is the third year in a row that Lightridge has hosted the career fair and they plan on continuing it for future classes.
