On October 23-25, Lightridge Theatre will be showcasing TRAP, a documentary-style play about a series of tragedies in a small town.
“We wanted to do it before Halloween this year,” said Brandon Kalbaugh, Lightridge’s Theatre Director. This play is “spooky” which is why Kalbaugh chose the timing of the showcase.
Sophic Coyle, a senior, who plays Heche, said the character is more serious with and displays less emotion than any other role she has played, which makes portraying the Heche challenging.
“I lay on the floor, actually” said Coyle, explaining how she gets into character. “It helps me feel more grounded and connected. And then I will get into Heche’s mindset”
“ I love working with Chloe [Steverson],” said Coyle. “ Chloe plays a character named Angela, and she’s kind of crazy.”
Steverson, who is also a senior, and Coyle and started working together their sophomore year in Lightridge’s Peter Pan production.
“This show is a thriller, and it is written really well, “said Steverson. “It’s a really good experience, it is really different from anything we have done before.”
Like Coyle, Steverson enjoyed the challenge of the role.
“ I’ve never really been cast for a really serious, kind of traumatic role,” Steverson said. “I’m really excited though because I’ve always wanted to play a role like this, and there is something just so special about Angela.”
Special effects will play a part in the production. In the fall play last year, Antigone PLUS, the tech crew used a scrim, a sheer curtain used to add depth to specific aspects of the story. Using the experience they learned from working with a scrim last year, they are using a scrim box, which can be wheeled around the stage, to enhance the story of TRAP.
Tickets went on sale October, 2nd and are currently available online and can also be purchased at the door.
