A new art installation at Lightridge has generated a lot of foot traffic in the English department hallways.

The installation, a collection of collages created by Stephanie Cichoski’s sophomore students, has attracted many visitors to her side of the hall. It has become a regular occurrence to see students from outside of Cichoski’s class stopping to look at the work.

The collages are a visual representation of the students’ feelings on who they are and where they come from and are part of an English unit called “The Story of You” which Cichoski describes as an exercise “… where the students have to tell a story about themselves or about their ancestors.”

A common theme in the collages is the importance of family in the students’ lives.

Sophomore Kyle Heavener, who puts focus on his last name in the middle of his collage, said “ Family is really important to me, so I feel like that was (the) most important (thing) to say.”

Other collages feature favorite musical artists, countries of origin and favorite foods, to name only a small sample of the topics covered.

Cichoski stressed  the importance of the project, outside of the traditional Language Arts sphere.

“It gives us an opportunity to show people who we are outside of just writing,” said Cichoski.

The collages are on display in the 1400 hallway and will stay up at least through February.
