On Friday, December 16, 2022, students from the Women Studies course offered at Lightridge visited the Hirshhorn Museum and National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.

The Hirshhorn Museum is the national museum of contemporary and modern art. The National Gallery of Art showcases visual art, culture, and education. The Hirshhorn Museum has an exhibit made up of women artists, including an exhibit about the guerilla girls, women activists who worked to have women representation in the art world.

“The National Gallery of Art was more focused on women artists as well as women portrayed in art,” said Andawen Sauder, a senior who participated in the trip and who is a Women’s Studies student. “It was a really cool trip and there were a lot of pieces that celebrated women’s bodies, emotions, and contributions.”
