Over the past few months, you may have noticed an oddly shaped ice cube sitting on your classmates’ desks being squished. If you’ve been wondering what the hype is all about, that’s NeeDohs’ Nice Cube, the new fidget toy everyone seems to be obsessed with.
The Nice Cube was created in 2018 by Diane Smith, CEO of the NeeDoh company. The company originally started making classic toys and games during the 1960s, and after the growing popularity of therapeutic putties and doughs, they decided to create and explore their own unique sensory toys.
Although the NeeDoh was created in 2018, it did not begin gaining widespread popularity until this year.
“Around January, I started seeing the Nice Cube all over my TikTok For You Page and decided to buy it since it had good reviews,” said junior Caleigh Shedeck.
The toy’s prominence on social media resulted in a two/times increase in purchases from November 2025 to February 2026.
NeeDohs come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and textures. Some even glow in the dark and have different scents, giving everyone plenty of options to choose from.
Many people have gotten NeeDohs simply because they’re fun and trendy. However, more than just a trend, the toy’s soft, squishy texture can actually help with stress and make it easier to focus in class. That’s what makes the toy so popular.
“I use it during classes almost every day. I think it helps a lot with stress,” said freshman Zoey Barker. “Stress balls were never helpful enough, and slime would make a mess. It’s the perfect mix in one neat fidget!”
