Freshmen Mega Balabbigara and Joslyn Bennett research haunted houses.

LaLaurie Mansion in New Orleans, Louisiana is famous for the horrific story behind countless deaths that occurred inside the house. Amityville Horror House in New York became infamous and nicknamed “the murder house” when it was the scene of a six person homicide. Posters of these locations and more haunted the 1400 hallway as part of a learning exercise in Megan Watson’s 9th grade English class.

The exercise had students research each haunted location and come up with a thesis statement on which place is the most haunted. Students were getting comfortable with writing thesis statements after research in preparation for an up-coming research essay.

Watson is a new teacher at Lightridge. Prior to teaching at Lightridge, Watson taught for seventeen years in Clark County, Virginia and in Florida. When asked about her experience teaching at Lightridge so far, Watson said that “everyone is so kind.”
