If you ever get a chance to visit the teacher parking lot this year, you may have noticed something different. Just like senior parking, some Lightridge teachers have opted to paint their parking spot.
The need for these new spots stems from the addition of the Learning Cottages this year. The cottages removed a significant amount of parking spots for teachers, so the idea of designated spots appealed to many teachers. In order to receive a reserved painted parking spot, teachers had to pay 50 dollars.
These spots were painted by Lightridge Highschool art students during the fall months of the year, and the project gave students the opportunity to express their creativity while contributing to the school.
“It is fun to be able to use a different medium and to work on a larger scale than I am used to,” said Junior Abigail Dawson.
Art students also got extra credit points for their work, and later also got volunteer hours for working on it outside of school hours.
“The volunteer hours came later on to finish the rest of the parking spots,” said Junior Anisa Khan.
The process of creating the parking spots was detailed and spanned several weeks. It was meant to aid students in working on their design skills.
“You start by chalking out the parking spot’s design, and then you go in with your base colors that are the biggest and then you add the details. After that you just add the finishing touches,” said Junior Victoria Harrigan-Raschid.
Many students enjoyed the opportunity to work on such a large-scale project that allowed them to collaborate with others, and teachers appreciated the work done by the students.
“My parking spot was really cute. I am so glad this opportunity was offered to teachers this year,” said Spanish teacher Jazmin Cardoso.
