UPDATE: Due to concerns about the weather, the Multicultural Fair has been moved to February 11 and 12.
The third Lightridge Multicultural Fair is, which aims to celebrate the diversity of the Lightridge student body, is coming up next week. On Wednesday, January 28, students will be able to go to different breakout rooms during flex to learn more about the cultures that make up Lightridge. The following day students will be able to attend an assembly in the auditorium during flex that will feature a presentation along with performances from different affinity groups.
The event was started by school counselor Jennifer Schrader back in 2022, the second year Lightridge was open.
¨I pitched the idea to Dr. Hitchman because I think it’s a good opportunity to expose our students to other cultures and ideas with a fun and engaging event,¨ said Schrader.
Clubs like the South Asian Dance Team (AGNI) and Black Student Union (BSU) are preparing heavily for the event in order to make it a success.
“We are practicing three times a week and make sure everyone sends a video of their practice in order to stay clean. Expect a great performance on Thursday,” said AGNI captain Anvi Voleti, a junior.
With it being an optional event, club leaders and administrators hope that students take the time to visit the breakout rooms and assembly in order to learn more about the cultures that make up the school community.
¨Just enjoy it,” said Schrader, when asked how students should approach the event. ” I think it is something fun and it allows us to showcase who we are as people and individuals and why we all come together as members of Lightridge.”
