In early 2026, the Lightridge Gymnastics team won the Potomac District competition at Riverside High School and then closed out their season finishing second at regionals at Stone Bridge High School.
“I know everyone’s highlight of the season was winning Districts because it was a first,” said Junior Savannah Parker. “We also got first as a team for the first time in school history so that was really fun.”
After winning districts, the team got ready for the regional competition. To prepare they did their routines twice in a row to build endurance and fixed their form to perfect the skills they did in their routine. Also, they practiced silent and distraction routines where the team was completely silent or super loud watching a teammate perform. Lastly, they planned out their annual Texas Roadhouse trip that they go on after their last meet every season.
The Bolts competed against Stone Bridge, Riverside, Freedom, John Champe, Briar Woods, and Potomac Falls at regionals, which were the same teams they competed against in the district competition.
The date for regionals was changed a few times from February 7 to February 3. This meant less days to practice because there were snow days. It was then changed again to Friday, February 6.
“Due to the rescheduling, one of our top scoring senior gymnasts was not able to compete because she had college auditions in another state. When we beat these same teams at Districts, we had her competing, but not at regionals,” said Adams.
The positives at regionals included Hannah Robillard getting a career high score on her Vault and Eden Gentrup qualifying as an individual for states. Alicia Robillard qualified for states for bars and Hannah Robillard qualified for floor, vault and beam.
“More gymnasts were able to stick their beam routines with the bribe of more Texas roadhouse rolls,” said Adams.
They ended the meet in second place, and only the team in first place went on to states.
“During regionals I think we did a very good job of staying positive and cheering everyone on,” said Parker.
The team will prepare for next season by filling out a survey sent by Adams and having summer practices at a nearby gym.
“We will have pre-season practices in October to allow the girls a “head start” on forming their routines,” said Adams.
